How to remove rust
Annoying and insidious, rust is a problem for many people. It reduces the lifespan of surfaces and objects, damaging them irreversibly, and spreads, affecting everything in its path. Its reddish-brown color makes it easily recognizable, but removing rust isn't as simple as it seems. Originating from the oxidation of iron, it can be insidious and extremely dangerous to human health.
Is there a way to permanently eradicate it? There are several products on the market , but it's important to evaluate them carefully. Many are too aggressive and risk harming the environment or human health. It's therefore better to focus on solutions that come from green chemistry and are based on an ethical vision of chemistry. These products respect the well-being of people and the Earth, producing minimal pollution and guaranteeing optimal results.
How to remove rust
Like P-300/AD from New Chemical Prevention. An acid descaler and rust remover that can be used on a wide variety of materials. It is a specific detergent, useful for removing rust stains. It is also effective for whitish efflorescence, lime, cement and plaster encrustations, grout and whitewash residues . To use it, simply shake the product before use and make sure that the temperature is between +5°C and +30°C (never in direct sunlight during the summer months). P-300/AD should then be diluted in water based on the state of the rust to be removed and depending on the surface to be treated (1:2 with water as a rust remover on beole, granite, beole, serizzo; 1:4 with water for washing granite and terracotta surfaces; 1:9 with water for washing quartzite, ceramic and porcelain stoneware surfaces). It will take about 10 minutes for it to work , then simply scrub with a stiff brush (or Scotch Brite) and vacuum with a wet vacuum cleaner. The final step involves rinsing with clean water. P-300/AD has the advantage of not being too aggressive and ensuring a descaling effect proportional to the contact time. It has a pleasant scent and does not emit fumes.
Then we find P-500 , an acid descaler based on hydrochloric acid containing surfactants and corrosion inhibitors. It allows you to remove rust residue, as well as plaster, grout, and lime. It offers a thorough and fast descaling action, allowing you to remove oxidation and is suitable for various types of floors and walls . In this case too, the product must be shaken before use and is best applied at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C, never in direct sunlight during the hot months. After determining the dilution for cleaning the surface, simply distribute the solution and pass the single-brush machine with abrasive discs (about 1-2 minutes on 1 m2). The residue must be removed immediately with a wet vacuum cleaner, finally rinsing with water following the same procedure. For porous materials, New Chemical Prevention recommends pre-wetting the surfaces with water.
